Even though many people in our area maintain a lean, fit appearance with a healthy diet and consistent exercise routine, there are certain areas of the body that are difficult to tone. The plastic surgeons at Cosmetic Surgery Institute perform liposuction in Palm Desert to give our patients from Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, La Quinta, and other nearby areas relief from these "trouble spots." This procedure is ideal for people who are in good health but want to reduce specific areas of fat such as love handles, saddle bags, or a double chin.
Are You a Candidate?
Liposuction is a highly versatile procedure, making it appropriate for many different people. Generally speaking, if you have a specific area of fat that bothers you, it can likely be treated with liposuction. It's important that you're healthy enough to undergo surgery and have no existing conditions that could affect your procedure. During your consultation, your surgeon will perform a thorough physical evaluation and discuss your medical history with you to determine that liposuction is the right choice.
Because of the very fine Capistrano Precision Cannulas we use at Cosmetic Surgery Institute, we can treat almost any area of the body where localized fat deposits exist
A Note on Weight Loss
It is a misconception to think that you must lose weight before having liposuction. Our surgeons find that after liposuction, the body's metabolism skyrockets for the next six months, and our patients actually lose more weight and tone up after their procedures. Combined with proper nutrition and exercise, our patients can even improve and maintain their excellent results.
Our patients may lose an average of 10 to 20 pounds (or up to four dress sizes) after liposuction. Your results will depend on the extensiveness of your procedure and the lifestyle choices you make after surgery. However, liposuction is not an alternative to bariatric surgery. It's important to be dedicated to a healthy lifestyle after surgery in order to maintain your results.
At Cosmetic Surgery Institute, our surgeons approach liposuction with artistry and precision for personalized, long-lasting results. It begins with a thorough physical assessment in order to devise an effective method of body sculpting that will provide you with the contours you want. Women may be interested in a shapely, feminine silhouette, while men may want a more chiseled, angular look. Both men and women sometimes want to see an athletic, fit result. We ask questions to determine your ideal look. During this consultation, you'll also discuss important concepts including your medical history and the cost of liposuction.
We also tell you about the techniques we use and walk you through the steps of your procedure. Our surgeons use Capistrano Precision Cannulas for more efficient fat removal. These extremely thin tubes allow our surgeons to perform liposuction on all desired areas of the body, often in a single surgery.
Our surgeons are body contouring specialists, making them especially qualified to achieve the aesthetic goals of liposculpture, an approach that combines liposuction fat removal techniques with strategic body sculpting to shape and contour the targeted area. Liposculpture often includes fat transfer to ensure your results look natural and beautiful. Fat transfer is also part of the Brazilian butt lift procedure we offer.
To help maintain the results of liposuction surgery, Cosmetic Surgery Institute provides extensive postoperative recommendations, including exercise and nutrition guidance. By adhering to a healthy lifestyle, you can preserve your new body shape or even enhance your results.

Your Liposuction Procedure
Every liposuction procedure is performed in an outpatient setting at our modern medical facility to ensure safety. Depending on the extent of your surgery, general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation may be used.
Your surgeon will begin by making small incisions in the treatment areas. A sterile liquid solution is injected into localized fat deposits to reduce bleeding and allow for gentler, more thorough fat removal. Using controlled back-and-forth motions, your surgeon will move the cannula around under the skin to suction out excess fat cells. Our surgeons take their time during this important step in order to make sure that all of the fat is removed.
After your procedure, your surgeon wraps your treated areas in special compression garments. These help your body conform to its new shape and also help reduce swelling. You may return home the same day, but it's important to have someone to drive you and stay with you throughout the night. In the days and weeks following surgery, you can expect some temporary bruising and swelling. However, these symptoms diminish on their own.
The physical restrictions you'll have during your liposuction recovery depend on which areas of your body were treated, so it's important to follow your surgeon's specific directions. In general, light activity, such as walking, should be resumed as soon as possible. More strenuous activities and anything that involves stooping, bending, or heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks.
Most people can return to work within 3 to 10 days, depending on the significance of their procedures and the type of work they do. During your consultation, your surgeon will give you a better idea of your recuperation timeline so you may plan accordingly with your family and employer.

Enhancing Your Look
Liposuction can often be enhanced with other body shaping procedures such as a tummy tuck or breastaugmentation. Some men and women who choose liposuction of the chin and neck also opt for a facelift for additional effects. Your surgeon is happy to discuss complementary procedures with you during your consultation.
