WHAT IS FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY?

Facial plastic surgery is done to reshape structures on the head and neck areas, such as the cheekbones, chin, and neckline. This form of plastic surgery can help patients feel more comfortable and confident with their appearance or even improve function. Facial plastic surgery procedures are performed to enhance certain areas that the patient is dissatisfied with and improve their quality of life. They improve the visual appearance of the facial structure and features.

WHAT IS DR. MO ZAKHIREH’S APPROACH TO FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY?

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mo Zakhireh prioritizes very natural-looking work for facial plastic surgery that is pleasing to the eyes. He avoids a “pulled” look of the face or the eyes. This type of unwanted look from facial plastic surgery occurs when the plastic surgeon does only a skin pull or minimal support stitching of the muscles.

“Dr. Zakhireh provides a meticulous return of the foundation to its restored anatomic position that achieves a natural-looking and long-lasting result. In doing so, he is able to turn back time and literally give patients a second lease on their lives!”

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY?

Patients often get facial plastic surgery to remove contour irregularities, address signs of aging, address asymmetry, improve facial balance, and enhance the overall proportions of the face. Generally, you may be a good candidate for facial plastic surgery if you are in good overall health, do not suffer from any serious health conditions, and are a non-smoker or are willing to quit smoking prior to surgery and during recovery.

If you are considering facial plastic surgery, the first step is meeting with Dr. Zakhireh to discuss your goals, alternatives, and the potential benefits of various face procedures. Each type of facial plastic surgery has different criteria for candidacy, so whether you are a suitable candidate will depend on which type of surgery you are considering. Dr. Zakhireh will evaluate your facial anatomy thoroughly and help you decide which type of facial plastic surgery is best to address your concerns.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY?

FACELIFT

Soft tissue and bone changes contribute to facial aging. A facelift or rhytidectomy is a well-known form of facial plastic surgery that is performed to “lift up” portions of the face and restore a more youthful appearance. It can improve visual signs of aging on the face such as relaxed, sagging skin, deep folds between the sides of the nose and the corners of the mouth, fallen or depleted facial fat, drooping skin on the cheeks or jaw (jowls), and loose skin or excess fat below the chin that causes a “double chin.”

As Dr. Zakhireh explains, “The human body is a true walking miracle. It takes quite a beating on each day. Our face bottoms out with each step we take. So, if one does 10,000 steps daily, that’s 10,000 times our face bottoms out at approximately 2 to 3 lbs of downward force translated to each step. That is not accounting for skiing, basketball, tennis, horseback riding, and other activities. Add to that the loss of collagen elasticity at 1% per year after the age of 30. This is a perfect recipe for mother time and gravity to pull things down.”

You may be a good candidate for this form of facial plastic surgery if you have experienced wear and bottoming out of the face, along with neck issues. Full facelift candidates require an extensive restoration of the foundation of their face. These patients are usually aged forty and older.

DR. MO ZAKHIREH’S FOUNDATION LIFT APPROACH

Dr. Zakhireh’s technique involves restoring the foundation (the muscles of the face and neck) back to its youthful position. This involves placing very small stitches in key positions to re-suspend all the vital structures. This restoration is done in a 45-degree vector of pull in a superior and lateral vector. This is a very important angle in nature. It is usually well-known in the arts, photography, and architecture. For example, this is the reason why one enjoys seeing a flower. The petals of the flower are arranged in an aesthetically pleasing and natural manner based on the relationship of the 45-degree angle. This is also seen in snail shells and even when looking at the swirls of a hurricane storm on a weather map. If interested in this concept, one can research the Fibonacci Code or Sequence.

MINI FACELIFT

A mini facelift smooths and contours certain parts of the face, addressing certain signs of aging. The surgery and technique are essentially the
same, but there is less stitching to restore the foundation, and as it is not as aggressive as a full facelift, there is less downtime.

Ideal candidates for this type of facial plastic surgery are usually younger patients in the thirty to forty-five year old age group whose tissues have not had as much damage or bottoming out, either due to gravity or due to volume loss or collagen loss. These facial plastic surgery patients may simply need some more support for their neck or to address a small amount of jowling.

NECK LIFT

The neck is often a neglected area but is also one of the first areas to show signs of aging. A neck lift can create a sleeker, more defined contour. Facelift and neck lift surgeries are usually combined in a single facial plastic surgery operation to address the aging process comprehensively.

EYELID SURGERY

The natural aging process can cause the skin to lose elasticity, and droopy eyelids may occur. Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a form of facial plastic surgery that restores a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to the eye area. It reduces bagginess and excess skin and can be used to enhance the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. This facial plastic surgery can correct loose skin that creates folds, fatty deposits that cause puffiness, and bags below the eyes.

OTHER COSMETIC PROCEDURE OPTIONS BEYOND FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY

In addition to facial plastic surgery, Cosmetic Surgery Institute also offers a full range of other surgical options, including body surgery and breast surgery. We offer plastic surgery to help patients achieve their desired body contours. These options include but are not limited to tummy tuck surgery to correct sagging skin and excess fat on the abdomen, liposuction to target pockets of stubborn fat, Mommy Makeover surgery to address lingering physical changes after pregnancy, and Brazilian butt lifts to provide a fuller, shapelier buttocks. Our breast surgery options include breast augmentation with breast implants, fat transfer, or a combination of both approaches, breast lift surgery to raise and reshape the breasts and create a more youthful appearance, and breast reduction to reduce the size of overly large breasts.
